Access Statement

Access Statement

At Cottage Orné, we want all our guests to feel comfortable, welcome and able to enjoy their stay with ease. Our hamlet is located within a historic countryside setting, and while we’ve worked to make it as accessible as possible, some features of the landscape and original buildings may present challenges for guests with limited mobility. The following details are designed to help you decide whether our accommodation meets your individual needs.

Arrival and Parking

  • On-site parking is available for all guests, approximately 10-50 metres from each cottage depending on location.
  • Parking areas are surfaced with grass and gravel, consistent with the rural setting.
  • Pathways to the cottages are lit but may be uneven due to the age and character of the hamlet.

Access to Cottages

  • All cottages have a front door step or sill to directly access them.
  • We have 3 cottages that have a ground-floor bedroom and bathroom but have small steps at the entrances (see individual summaries below).
  • Doorways are of standard width and may not be suitable for larger mobility aids or wheelchairs.
  • There are no ramps or handrails installed within the cottages at present.

Interiors and Facilities

  • All cottages feature standard-height beds, seating, and bathroom fixtures.
  • None of the cottages currently include fully adapted bathrooms or accessible facilities such as grab rails or roll-in showers.
  • Shared outdoor amenities (such as the pool, saunas, and other facilities) are reached via uneven ground on gravel pathways.
  • There are no pool hoists or additional mobility aids on-site.

Individual Cottages Access Summary

  • The 1760s Ploughman’s Cottage (3 bedrooms – sleeps 5) has a ground-floor bedroom with ensuite shower room (69cm doorway, 10cm shower lip). The living areas are also on the ground floor and the remaining bedrooms and additional bathroom are upstairs.
  • Gardener’s Cottage (1 bedroom – sleeps 2) is a single story cottage with a small step at the entrance. The bedroom leads to a bathroom (65cm doorway) with a shower over bath.
  • Mariner’s Cottage (1 bedroom – sleeps 2) is a single story cottage with a small entrance step, the pathway to the cottage is cobblestone. The turning space is limited inside.

All other cottages have their bedrooms and bathrooms on the first floor and are accessed via internal staircases. These cottages are not considered accessible but we would be happy to provide further details.

Lighting and Signage

  • Outdoor areas and pathways are illuminated at night, providing visibility between parking areas and cottages.
  • Signage around the site is clear and legible, though not in tactile or large-print formats.

Dogs and Assistance Animals

  • Some of our cottages are dog-friendly, and assistance dogs are welcome across the site.
  • Guests bringing assistance animals are encouraged to notify us in advance so we can recommend the most suitable accommodation.

Communication and Support

  • Our team is happy to discuss specific needs in advance of your stay.
  • You can reach us by email at hello@cottageorne.com or by phone on 07907 936201.
  • We do not currently offer information in alternative formats such as large print, but we are always available to answer questions personally.

Future Improvements

We are continuously looking at ways to improve accessibility as we develop the site further. Guest feedback is always welcome and helps us plan thoughtful updates to make Cottage Orné more inclusive over time.
